All products are manufactured to customer specifications. McCoy purchases hot rolled, special bar quality (high carbon, low alloy) steel directly from the mills. The steel is then drawn and cut to rods in several diameters and lengths. For suspension u-bolts and j-bolts, the rods are chamfered, threaded and bent. For other parts, the rods are chamfered, threaded, and then CNC-machined, ground, stamped, pressed, formed and / or bent as necessary. All parts can be either heat treated or stress relieved, if necessary. McCoy Bolt internally finishes with a zinc phosphate and oil coating. For any plating requirements, the company uses local outside vendors.
All threaded parts produced by McCoy have rolled threads, which means that the bar diameter on the unthreaded portion of the part will be slightly smaller than the threaded portion. With roll threading equipment, the thread is rolled on the smaller bar and "blows up" to the desired dimensions. McCoy produces parts with both coarse and fine threads. If desired, McCoy can produce roll thread parts with the same diameter for both the threaded and unthreaded portions.
Since its inception, the company has demonstrated an unyielding commitment to quality. Due to the nature of high stress fastening applications, quality assurance is a very important aspect of operations. McCoy Bolt is extremely focused on controlling the process variables that affect the mechanical properties of the drawn steel part. This focus is applied with steel suppliers as well as with those process variables done internally. In fact, tests of hardness and tensile strength on processed bolts prove that McCoy products score considerably above specified industry standards.
Because of its orientation to the heavy vehicle industry, McCoy typically produces parts to standards established by the Society of Automotive Engineers (S.A.E.) using special bar quality steel grades modified to unique McCoy specifications.
